Using essential oils to deepen your self-hypnosis relaxation .....
I tell my hypnobirthing clients that they need to regularly practice what they are learning: practice their breathing, self-hypnosis, visualisations and using anchors.
One of the best ways of doing all of this is to use essential oils in a diffuser as you listen to your hypnosis MP3s. Using essential oils for massage is also beneficial but, today, I’m going to look at what oils are useful to use in a diffuser to encourage deep relaxation for pregnant women. For safety, essential oils shouldn’t be used in the first trimester but there are some oils that are considered safe in the second and third trimesters.
The second trimester is the stage of your pregnancy from 14 - 26 weeks. I usually start to see clients from around 20-22 weeks of their pregnancy as they know that they will have a good amount of time to practice everything that they are learning in hypnobirthing. The following oils are considered safe to use in the second trimester and encourage relaxation:
Frankincense - this oil helps to focus energy, minimise distractions and improve concentration.
Lavender - this is a universal oil that has traditionally been used to balance the body. It helps to relax, comfort and balance the mind.
Peppermint - purefying and stimulating to the conscious mind, this oil can help with memory and mental performance.
Roman Chamomile - this is a calming and relaxing oil that can eliminate anxiety and nervousness, soothing and clearing the mind.
Wild orange - orange is calming and uplifting to the mind and body and encourages a positive outlook.
Ylang Ylang - a calming and relaxing oil with a sweet floral scent, it can help with sleep problems.
You can use an individual oil on it’s own or you can blend a couple of oils together - for instance, Frankincense and Wild Orange go really well together but you can play around with the different blends to see what you really like.
The third trimester of your pregnancy is up to the 40th week. All of the above oils are good to use as are:
Black pepper - comforting and stimulating, it strengthens the nerves and mind.
Geranium - can ease nervous tension and stress and balance the emotions.
There are a variety of diffusers available to buy from different outlets: Neal’s Yard, John Lewis, Holland & Barrett, The White Company (to name just a few). Some have variable lighting as well as timers, which are also really good to use in your baby’s room once they are older than six months - nightlight and aromatherapy for respiratory problems.
I use DoTerra oils because, as far as I am concerned, they are the purest oils to use. Do get in touch if you’d like to know more about essential oils or DoTerra.
